Parakeet: Hello World

For this example I’m going to assume your working directory is ~/www

mkdir -p ~/www/src/content
mkdir -p ~/www/src/category
mkdir -p ~/www/src/series
cd ~/www/src

Create a file called site.parakeet containing the following:

[site]
name: Example Web Site
home url: http://www.somedomain.com/mysite
copyright: My organisation
[/site]

[author]
name: Joe Bloggs
[/author]

Now run parakeet to build.

You should now have something similar to the below under ~/www/output/draft:

feed/site.xml
theme/css
theme/css/default.css
theme/icon
theme/icon/author-email.png
theme/icon/author-facebook.png
theme/icon/author-twitter.png

Now create an actual home page, go to ~/www/src/content and create a file called index.page that contains:

---+ Home page

This is my first page generated with Parakeet.

Run parakeet again. You can run from anywhere under ~/www/src, you don’t have to go back to the src directory itself.

You should now have an index.html file under output/draft.
